WHAT IS CRAB THEORY?

Crab Theory is a colloquialism used in American Sign Language to describe one’s action of pulling down others in quest for success or to be on the top. In Deaf Culture it is used often to refer to deaf individuals who gossip about or backstab or pull down other deaf individuals. This colloquialism may be applied to hearing individuals in general. For the theme of this show I am connecting the term crab theory to the other colloquialism – conspiracy theory – in word play. The state of Maryland is well known for its crab population.
